1998
Quality Systems Solutions
City of Industry, CA
Oracle DBA
- Installed and configured an Oracle Web Application Server 3.0.2.
Revised html to allow selection between production and development
databases, and corrected some Y2K javascript problems.
- Configured and tuned Oracle 8.0.3 RDBMS. Enlarged RBS and created
seperate tablespaces for Index and Tables, and revised INITIAL and NEXT
based on projected storage utilization. Set initialization parameters
as appropriate. Also used replication
(snapshots) to keep development and production
reference tables in sync.
- Managed two HPUX 10.20 servers (K370 RDBMS server and
and D380 Web server); applied HPUX maint bundles, revised HPUX
Kernel parms, revised startup/shutdown process to automatically restart
database after reboot, created WWW monitor to restart the WWW server
if it crashed, created numerous shell scripts to run in the late hours
(using crontab facility to automatically run as scheduled times)
to do backups, migration of procedures to production, analyze tables and
indexes, and monitor performance and space utilization.
- Reviewed application components and made recommendations
to improve query efficiency, systems reliability,
error handling and logging,
or otherwise take into account system administration needs.
Created an SCCS source
management environment to control/monitor/review Pro*C programming.
Performed maintenance on Pro*C and PL/SQL code as needed to correct
observed or anticipated database management problems.

recommended AIX solution, resulting in an immediate savings of
$100K+/month, with payback in less than a year.
-
Automated and delegated
most Quality Assurance tasks, and took on additional responsibilities
including Software Maintenance (bug fixes), Software Integration
(monitoring SCCS updates, generating release packages), and Database
Administrator (updating table definitions, analysis of performance
tuning issues), such that successful delivery with reduced staff
and cost was still achievable.
